Sol Meliá ratifies its vocation for the Cuba Destination
2009-12-21
"Sol Meliá continues betting with absolute conviction on Cuba, promoting its attractions and looking optimistically towards the future".
This was stated by Sol Meliá Cuba Communications Manager, Sven Boen during a meeting with tour operators, travel agents, airlines and specialized press at the Meliá Cohiba Hotel in Havana. The meeting was also attended by Maria Elena Lopez, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Francisco Camps, the company's representative in largest island of the Greater Antilles and other officials of the sector. He also stressed that the company continues equipping Sol Meliá Cuba hotels with competitive and modern products, as evidenced by the opening of a Royal Service area in Paradisus Varadero and Paradisus Rio de Oro in Holguin.
"Royal Service is one of the most representative products of the high standards and comfort that distinguish our hotels, where guests find exclusivity, privacy and highly personalized attention", underlined the Sol Meliá Cuba. Communications Manager.
He also announced the opening of a Royal Service area in Punta Madruguilla, Cayo Santa Maria, located approximately 380 kilometers east of Havana.
Precisely in this destination - he added - the first world-class Sol Meliá Spa was opened in Cuba and in 2009, a fourth was opened in the Paradisus Varadero Hotel.
He noted that these facilities offer almost 40 different types of massages and body treatments, and the latest was equipped with the first janzu swimming pool in Cuba, for administering massages in the water.
He described 2009 as a difficult year due to the global economic crisis, which led to travelers to look for lower prices, destinations close to their places of residence during short periods.
"Nevertheless, we expect to close 2009 with around 38 000 more stays compared with 2008", said Sven Boen.
For 2010, we predict a 3% percent growth in the number of stays, which we consider a good augur in an important year for Sol Meliá Cuba, when it will be celebrating two decades of presence in the largest island in the Caribbean.
