The Meliá Cayo Coco Hotel was awarded a distinction certifying the resort as "an environmentally responsible center", due to its tourism friendly practices. The Territorial Environmental Distinction was presented during the national commemoration of the World Environment Day, which took place on June 5th in the north central Cuban province of Ciego de Avila. This recognition of the environmental management and protection efforts deployed by Meliá Cayo Coco was granted by the provincial delegation of the Ministry Science, Technology and Environment of Cuba (CITMA). Meliá Cayo Coco ,whose modern infrastructure harmonizes with its natural surroundings, is located on the islet of the same name in the Jardines del Rey archipelago, approximately 500 kilometers east of Havana. A Five- Star All Inclusive resort designed for adults over 18 years, whose 250 rooms are situated in a beautiful ecological environment. The resort's suites and superior rooms are built on stilts over a natural seawater lagoon surrounded by a unique landscape.
